Our editing recommendations

Canva is a program that most communications professionals are already familiar with. It also has a free version.
Pros: can create social media videos quickly using included templates. Add graphics and animations quickly.
Cons: It’s really not meant for precise or complex video editing and its interface is not intuitive. Once you meet the boundary of Canva we recommend switching to our next option.

Premier Rush is our all-around favorite for beginners who need to get started with video editing quickly.
This powerful program has everything you need and nothing you don’t. You can access most features for free or pay a small fee for the full program.
Pros: There’s a lot you can accomplish with Rush and the interface is easy to use and intuitive. If you outgrow this program it will be easier to transition to a professional editing program.
Cons: It doesn’t do graphics or animations as easily but it’s still possible to do them.

For our clients and special projects we edit in DaVinci Resolve by Blackmagic Design. It’s an incredible program and we especially love its color grading tools. It’s basic version is free and we highly recommend it to anyone that is ready to dive into more advanced editing.
THAT SAID - we also use Canva for quick videos for social media. WHY? Because it’s faster and easier!
Once you have filmed your videos you will then need to edit them. These are our recommendations for free editing software with pros and cons listed as well as links to tutorials that we found useful.
The best way to save yourself time in editing is to film intentionally with your final edit already in mind. Taking some time to plan your filming session ahead of time and keeping things simple and focused on filming day will save you hours on the back end.
